He was born Jefferson Randolph Smith II in Newnan, Georgia, on November 2, 1860 and he would be known as Soapy, on of the most notorious con men in the old west. From the Shell Game and Three-card Monte to a fake telegraph and investments, if there was a way to take advantage of people, Soapy was involved. Today I tell his story!
