Cognitive Load Theory (Definition + Examples)

A sense of urgency combined with intense focus triggers neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to rewire itself physiologically) because it enters an altered state releasing noradrenaline and then acetylcholine; a neuromodulator that highlights & targets which groups of neurons to change. Combine that with deep sleep or complete rest allows the brain to actually install the learning. So naps are incredible ways of installing long-term memory. To further increase retention use Active Recall; the most powerful way to install knowledge and actually retain it long term. Active Recall is basically the opposite of passive observation; like reading, mindlessly watching videos, etc. Active recall is about consciously dwelling on a piece of information, visualizing the included elements,, attacking it from different angles, asking questions, answering those questions, speaking it out loud, attaching that information to the visual components, etc. THAT makes EVERYTHING stick in amazing detail and makes it easily accessible too, years after even.
