Exposing COINTELPRO, the U.S. "Counter Intelligence Program" carried out from 1956 to 1971. During today's episode, we discuss why COINTELPRO specifically targeted Black and Brown national liberation movements. We talk about the surveillance, torture, and murder of Black Panthers, Brown Berets, Young Lords, and members of the American Indian Movement. We also discuss how COINTELPRO lives on today and the ongoing suppression of political prisoners. Today's guests are Christian Durán and Khalil Sankara. Chris is a student and community organizer working with Free 'em All New Jersey. He also works with several other campaigns to free U.S.-held political prisoners and prisoners of war. Chris is a first year graduate student at the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at New York University. Khalil is a founder of the Troika Kollective, a revolutionary organization of Latin American and Caribbean people combating imperialist propaganda in the metropole. Unmasking Imperialism exposes imperialist propaganda in mainstream media. Hosted by Ramiro Sebastián Fúnez.
