In this mini-series for Jazzwoche Berlin #8, host Aida Baghernejad speaks with four artists who each bring a unique perspective to this year's theme, "collective improv(e)ment." Together, they reflect on improvisation, collaboration, movement and the ways collective practices can shape artistic and social change.
Today's guest: Gugulethu Duma aka Dumama – musician, composer, sonic poet and cultural researcher. The conversation explores collective memory, improvisation as embodied knowledge, ancestral sound practices and the relationship between voice, movement and community. Dumama also reflects on making art between South Africa and Berlin, the challenges of sustaining an artistic practice, and why sound can become a space for transformation, belonging and liberation.
Host: Aida Baghernejad
Editing: James Banner
Music: “Zulassen” by Windisch Quartett
