A Letter For Sally

Colleen Ballinger | Child Exploitation and Common Sense

Listen Later

i haven’t really been watching or listening on the colleen ballinger situation but i did have some things i wanted to talk about in regards to it i remember watching miranda sings and colleen a little bit when i was younger i never liked miranda sings it made me uncomfortable i didn’t like the netflix show it just wasn’t my vibe but i think about this switch that a lot of influencers did in like 2017-2018 shifting their content from being targeted towards kids to teenagers and adults and how uncomfortable it made me when jake paul was like openly talking about sexual shit in his videos and having a majority kid audience and being on disney channel and shit and how i was just like you aren’t using your platform correctly and like the beauty vloggers or lifestyle girls like alisha marie remi ashton my life as eva switching from being in their twenties doing back to school hauls to getting black out drunk and having yacht parties and i think i’m starting to see the issues with targeting your audience towards kids and how weird it is that adults do that online and to see someone take advantage of their young audience is gross and manipulative and i talk a l on here about protecting kids who are being used for content but we also need to protect kids who are being used for traffic to generate money by these influencers reminds me again of jake paul and logan paul and ricegum and all of there gambling scams the ace family and there course scam like just targeting impressionable kids
i have been watching youtube since i was 11 my parents didn’t control the internet from me at all they had their own shit going on and without protection online things that happened to adam mcintyre could’ve happened to anyone
i just don’t understand how someone can think that it is okay to engage with minors online whether they are in your fanbase or not and for colleen an influencer who knows how much work goes into making contents making videos and making tweets let’s a child in her audience do it and doesn’t pay them or realize maybe that’s not right and maybe my content isn’t something i should be discussing with a kid or having a child have control of my account because of the sexual nature of miranda sings
also i think it was weird how miranda was like marketed to kids and how he was just like creepy and the fact that a lot of the content was things that shouldn’t be watched by kids or consumed by kids but yet she allowed kids at her shows
i started listening to trisha paytas on julia fox’s podcast yesterday and she talked about how she used to make like 200k a month on youtube and i just think that money is the end all be all in a lot of these people and why they decide to do things that are so immoral like colleen seemed to go there the money is and not care who it negatively harmed whether that is her exploiting her kids now or her nieces and nephews then or exploiting adam for work and i saw the dancer talking about not being fairly paid on tour like she was probably swimming in money during this time and couldn’t shell out a livable wage for her dancers
the while situation is gross and i think as an adult it should be common sense to not interact with minors online to not make people work for you without compensation or being of age to legally work and to also watch what we say and how we act around kids as much as possible and it seemed to me like colleen failed to do that a lot in her youtube career
i hope she can apologize and not victim blame or make excuses just admit you were wrong and try to remedy the situation i think that’s what a lot of people want and need to hear
