Welcome to The Safe Space!
Paul reveals how deeply he struggles and prays for believers—that their hearts would be encouraged, united in love, and filled with complete confidence in the understanding of God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Paul warns them not to let anyone deceive them with persuasive arguments. Since they have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord, they must continue to follow him. Let their roots grow down into him, and let their lives be built on him. Then their faith will grow strong in the truth they were taught, overflowing with thankfulness.
He cautions them not to be captured by empty philosophies and human thinking that come from the spiritual powers of this world rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body, and believers have been made complete through him. Christ is the head over every ruler and authority.
Through Christ, their old sinful nature has been cut away—not by a physical ceremony, but by a spiritual transformation. In baptism they were buried with Christ, and with him they were raised to new life because they trusted in the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
Once they were dead because of their sins, but God made them alive with Christ. He forgave all their sins and canceled the record of charges against them. He took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this victory, Christ disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities, shaming them publicly by his triumph over them on the cross.
Because of this, Paul tells them not to let anyone condemn them over food, drink, holy days, festivals, or Sabbaths. These things were only shadows of the reality to come, and Christ himself is that reality. They must not let anyone disqualify them by insisting on false humility, the worship of angels, or visions that puff people up with spiritual pride.
Instead, they are to hold tightly to Christ, who is the head of the body. From him, the whole body is nourished and grows as God intends.
Since they have died with Christ to the spiritual powers of this world, Paul asks why they continue to follow human rules as though they still belonged to the world. Rules about touching, tasting, or handling may appear wise because of strict self-denial and outward religion, but they provide no power against sinful desires.
Paul’s message is clear: true fullness, freedom, and victory are found in Christ alone—not in human traditions, empty religion, or outward appearances.
Verse of the Day: Song of Songs 4:7
You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.
Question of the Day:
In which areas of life do you feel most insecure?
