Columbia River March 15 Fishing Report: Spring Chinook, Steelhead, and Bass Biting

Listen Later

Hey there, anglers! Artificial Lure here with your Columbia River fishing report for March 15, 2025.

The tides are looking good today, with a high of 8.23 feet at 3:04 AM and a low of 0.95 feet at 9:07 AM. Sunrise is at 7:27 AM and sunset at 7:21 PM, giving us plenty of daylight to work with.

Weather-wise, we're looking at partly cloudy skies with temps in the mid-50s. Not too shabby for mid-March!

Now for the good stuff - the fish are biting, folks! Spring Chinook are starting to show up, though it's still early. We're seeing some decent catches near the mouth of the Willamette and around Sauvie Island. A few lucky anglers have landed some nice 15-20 pounders.

Winter steelhead action is still going strong, especially in the tributaries. The Cowlitz and Lewis rivers have been producing well. Don't forget about those feisty smallmouth bass either - they're getting more active as the water warms up.

For bait, you can't go wrong with cured salmon roe for the springers. Sandshrimp and nightcrawlers are working well for steelhead. If you're targeting bass, try some soft plastics or small crankbaits.

Hot spots to check out: the Portland Harbor area near the I-5 bridge has been producing some nice catches. Also, give Multnomah Channel a shot - heard some good reports from there lately.

Remember, the spring Chinook season is open through April 6 below Bonneville Dam. You're allowed one hatchery Chinook per day, so make it count!

That's all for now, folks. Tight lines and see you on the water!
