On April 20, 1999, in Columbine, Colorado, a high School massacre took place. The perpetrators, two twelfth grade students, murdered 12 students and one teacher.
Twenty-one additional people were injured by gunshots, and gunfire was also exchanged with the police. Another three people were injured trying to escape the carnage.
The two murderers ended their killing spree in the schools library, where the pair committed suicide.
At the time, it was the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history and this crime has inspired several copycat attacks.
