Following John's massive prologue, he begins gathering and presenting his evidence through the testimony of those who knew Jesus:  "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"  "We have found the Messiah!"  

John goes on to provide even more direct testimony -- including from the Holy Spirit Himself -- that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah long predicted by Moses and the prophets.  John the Baptist is center stage, heralding the coming of the Messiah with great humility.  "These things are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name."
