My beloved speaks and says to me: “Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away,—Song of Solomon 2:10 (ESV)
In our new season on the Earnest Enquirer Podcast, Come Away with us in our work of love, as we explore some of the key motifs in the biblical narrative that tell the story of the Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration. We began this series with a look at the motif of marriage and we continue, looking at the motif of love, through Soren Kierkegaard’s masterpiece, Works of Love. Mostly, we will consider the motif of love in the biblical narrative, through a biblical theological approach, whilst drawing on Kierkegaard’s analytical framework, encapsulated by two Danish words for two kinds of love: ‘Elskov’ and ‘Kjerlighed’. These two words open up a window for us to develop a conceptual framework that considers the distinction between erotic love and Christian love.
Further consideration is given to Kierkegaard’s Works of Love, through a small sampling taken from the multifarious typologies of love illustrated in his work, as we move through this season.
