A young boy dressed in yellow sat at a wooden bench in an outdoor theatre. He would have been all alone in that space, had it not been for the medium sized grouping of twenty-somethings—known collectively as the improv-troupe: Wyatt Privilege— gallivanting about the center stage: miming things that weren’t there, performing monologues that never really landed and laughing at one and others jokes at decibel levels inappropriate in all areas of polite society. As always the boy was positively enraptured by the display and he hung on every word and action unfurled before him. He watched for what seemed like ages until Wyatt, the troupe leader, told his team to “take five” and hopped down off the stage, making his way toward the sitting boy. The boy's eyes grew ever wider as Wyatt and his smiling face grew nearer. When Wyatt was close enough he crouched down to the boys level, and ruffled his hair before saying, “Back again, eh Allison?” The boy nodded, “Wouldn’t miss it!” he said. Wyatt let out an amused chuckle before getting serious, “Your dad know you’re here?”
“Not exactly..” The boy began, “Mom does though —and what's his problem anyway? Why can’t he just accept my dreams, this..” The boy gestured to the stage in front of him, “Is what I really want to do and he knows it! I don’t get him sometimes…” The boy looked down at his feet and Wyatt ruffled the boy's hair again before answering. “Look your dad…Everyone knows that Jack Allison is a complicated guy, I mean he used to *be* one of us —well not us-us, but the community as a whole, remember I told you that?” The boy nodded and Wyatt continued, “Man he wrote some great stuff back in the day...look a lot of things happened and over the years he... it’s just that he’s—”
“'Complicated?” The boy finished bitterly. Wyatt closed his eyes and chuckled briefly before opening them again. “Sharp kid.”
“Sometimes I hate being an Allison..” The boy grumbled.
“Hey don’t forget,” Wyatt said pointing at the boy as he stood up. “You’re a Raft too. Now run along home, I don’t want any more angry Twitter DM’s from your pops.”
