This nearly two-hour Christmas special was aired via the Armed Forces Radio Service on December 25, 1948 and features Bing Crosby, Gene Autry, and Edumnd Gwenn (Photo), who was the star of the film "Miracle on 34th St." ... guess who he played in the movie? :) Well he plays the same character throughout this show! Santa. This program is filled with a wide variety of traditional Christmas songs including of course, Gene Autry's rendition of Bob May's "Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer"... and there are a lot of excellent comedy skits featuring Gwenn, Mel Blanc, Frank Nelson, Walter Tetley, Marian (Molly McGee) Jordan, Jerry Colonna, vocalist, Harry Babbitt, Ann Southern, the Pied Pipers, and vocalist Cass Daley.. The end of the program features an excellent dramatic production (One Brief Moment" centered on the meaning of Christmas starring Francis X. Bushman, William Conrad and narrated by Donald Crisp. This is truly a "Special Christmas " program... music, comedy, drama... and the audio quality is superb.
