Overview: God saves us as individuals, and then joins us into something bigger than ourselves--the community of the church. So the Christian life is about both our vertical relationship with God and our horizontal relationship with the church. God calls Christians to be committed to each other, and this passage presents five foundational truths that undergird Christians' commitment to each other- -1- Every member of the church is united together by the same Holy Spirit, -2- the church as a whole needs every individual member, -3- God gathers the members of the church and assigns different roles to each, -4- each member of the body is equally important and necessary, and -5- every member of the church shares the pain and pleasure of every other member. If Christians are bound together and must be committed to each other, it's going to involve a lot of -bearing with one anouther- -Ephesians 4-2-. Our commitments to one another must be stronger than whatever issues at present are coming between us. We're joined by Jesus, and he wants our committed love for one another to shine to the world.
