It’s Sunday morning after late service. A couple sits at a large round table with a cup of coffee and a donut hole. Soon a widower joins them. And then another single guy stops and asks to join. Conversations begin about the sermon that day. The next week they all head for that same table and another couple joins. Community happens.
By the work of the Holy Spirit, that community is sustained as they make their Christian walk. Recently a member of that group died suddenly, and the others supported his family through a difficult journey. It’s part of being community to mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice. Each Sunday morning, I see this group greeting each other with hugs and smiles. And I leave with a smile, as well!
