October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Since COVID-19 and quarantine, our community has seen an uptick in reported incidences of domestic violence. Today we talk with Assistant Director of Victims Services and Advocacy Programs at Community Services for Every1 Tiffany Pavone, JD. We discuss how to get help, why it takes more than one conversation with a loved one to convince them to escape a domestic violence situation and community resources available once they leave.

In today’s episode, we discuss relationships, identifying signs of an unhealthy relationship, and breaking away from the stereotype of what society thinks domestic violence always looks like. Individuals living with an intellectual or developmental disability are at a much higher risk for experiencing domestic violence. Knowing the signs of abuse and where to get help are the first steps in alleviating this problem in our community.

CIT is a nationwide effort to train law enforcement on de-escalating emotional and mental health crises in the community.
