When Ian was 13 years old, he tried to rob a woman named Debbie, who was 28 years old at the time. Sadly, Ian ended up shooting Debbie in the face when the robbery went awry. Debbie survived, and Ian was sentenced to life in prison. But recently, Debbie made headlines when she helped to get her shooter a second chance at life, by lobbying for Ian to be released from prison. In fact, when Ian was released, his first meal was shared with Debbie, who considers him to be like a son.
This kind of forgiveness is rare in our world. Debbie, who had every right to be angry, forgave her shooter. This reminds me a lot of God’s grace towards us. No matter how often we mess up, or how far we fall, God offers us grace. Complete, unearned, undeserved, forgiving grace. Ephesians 4:7 in the Bible says, “But to each one of us, grace has been given as Christ has appointed it.”
Look at the cross of Christ. Think about the depth of God’s love for you. He loves you so much that His grace is unending. Isn’t that a love worth sharing with people in your world? So many people suffer from guilt and need to hear about the forgiveness God offers in His grace.
