Trapped at a desk job, Charlie Muffin uncovers a deadly KGB plot
Charlie Muffin is too good an agent to be working a desk, but after a bust-up with his new director, he has been relegated to clerk work. Among the heaps of papers, though, Charlie stumbles upon the clues to a last-gasp plot from the collapsing Soviet Union. The signs point to a new Soviet Star Wars system - and to the involvement of a British traitor.
Or do they? After all, the KGB wants one more chance to eliminate their old adversary Charlie. When the agency discovers his involvement, it sets a nasty trap. As the Soviet regime crumbles, it could take Charlie down with it.

Great Book
Anyone who longs for the days of the Cold War when England and America knew who and where their enemies where will enjoy this classic blast from the past. It wouldn't be a Charlie Muffin book without moles, double crosses, traitors and, of course, Charlie's poor, aching feet. Charlie is a thinking man's spy -- more dangerous with a pen than a gun and more fun to read than most of the spy genre books out there today.
Below usual standard
I like the C. Muffin series, but this book does not live up to the usual standard where there is very little violence and a lot of outsmarting each other.
In this book there is more violence than usual, torture even which I personally find unnecessary and somewhat tasteless.
Also, the description of Charlie's smarts seems postulated as if the author has tired with it and believes that since reader already knows how smart Charlie is, he doesn't need to come up with story lines that support it.
Charlie Muffin review
Great series featuring an unconventional British spy focused on his own survival.
