Steel clashes, alliances crumble, and Hyperborea looms in the distance! In this episode of Hither Came Conan, Steeven ventures into Conan #3: At the Back of the North Wind, the 2004 Dark Horse epic where battle lines are drawn and betrayal is forged in the icy winds of the north.
Conan, alongside the warriors of Aesgard, tracks down the remnants of a Vanir raiding party, only to face an unexpected and brutal ambush by towering, pale-skinned giants—the Hyperboreans! As the battle rages, Conan learns a harsh lesson in trust when his so-called allies, Sjarl and Einar, reveal their treachery. Knocked unconscious and dragged into the snow, the young Cimmerian is now a prisoner heading toward the mysterious and deadly land of Hyperborea.
Steeven dives deep into the action-packed issue, dissecting moments of brotherhood, betrayal, and the first tantalizing glimpse of the eldritch horrors waiting in Hyperborea. With stunning art by Cary Nord and gripping storytelling by Kurt Busiek, this issue sets the stage for Conan’s greatest trials yet.
