Concerns raised over Meath Council’s ‘Confusing’ Presidential Nomination Meeting - 10/10/2025

Listen Later

Concerns have been raised over how a recent special Meath County Council meeting to nominate a presidential candidate was conducted, after confusion and technical difficulties overshadowed the proceedings and ultimately led to no candidate being endorsed.

At the meeting held last month, frustration mounted as councillors struggled to navigate unclear procedures during the hybrid session. At the end of it, millionaire entrepreneur Gareth Sheridan narrowly missed out on securing the Council’s nomination.

Navan Aontú councillor Emer Tóibín criticised the handling of the meeting, citing poor communication and technical issues from the outset.

Councillor Toibin joined us on The Agenda this morning to talk to us some more about this.
