Surf Report - Coney Island NYC area

Coney Island Beach and Manhattan Beach Surf Report for 10-18-2024

Listen Later

Hey there Surfers and Beachgoers!

Well, well, well, looks like we've got some mixed bag weather going on at the beaches today in New York. So, here's the scoop for your hang-ten plans.

If you're hitting up Kings (Brooklyn) beaches like Coney Island Beach or Manhattan Beach, watch out for a high rip current risk until 6 PM. Surf height is hanging around 3 feet with an east wind of 15 mph. The surf temperature is in the upper 60s, so not exactly bikini weather. The UV index is low, so slap on that sunscreen!

In Southern Queens at spots like Jacob Riis Park or Rockaway Beach, it's a similar story: high rip current risk, 3-foot waves, and an east wind of 15-20 mph.

Moving on to Southern Nassau with Atlantic Beach, Long Beach, and the crew, yep, high rip currents again, so maybe stick to building sandcastles today. The surf temp remains in the upper 60s, and the wind is still coming from the east at around 20 mph.

Heading over to Southwestern Suffolk's Gilgo State Park or Robert Moses State Park, it's a match with the high rip currents, a bit cooler at the mid-60s, and a brisk east wind at 20 mph.

Lastly, Southeastern Suffolk featuring Smith Point, Cupsogue Beach, and more, there's a 4-foot surf height and the tide is shifting at Shinnecock Inlet. The surf temp is hovering in the mid-60s with an east wind around 15 mph. Keep an eye out for those rip currents!

Remember to play it safe out there in the waves, keep your flotation device handy, and listen to the lifeguards. Oh, and don't forget your sunscreen with that low UV index today.

And hey, if you're planning on catching some waves in the upcoming days, keep an eye out for some clouds and maybe a stray shower here and there.
