You can't just tell people they're in a safe space and expect them to feel safe.
This week on Confident Inclusion, we're talking about psychological safety. What actually is it, why does it matter, and how do you know if your team has it?
We're making psychological safety simple, with practical examples you can start noticing in your own workplace.
In this episode, we get into:
- The red and green flags that reveal how psychologically safe your team really is
- The tiny everyday behaviours that make a BIG difference
- What vulnerability at work actually looks like (and why we need it)
- Practical tips for HR professionals and senior leaders
- One simple change to your meeting agendas that could make your meetings more inclusive
PLUS, Toby opens up about his own inclusive leadership journey, what he's still working on, and why keeping your composure matters more than you might think.
Whether you're leading a team, working in HR or simply curious about creating a workplace where people feel able to speak up, this one's for you.

Welcome to the very first episode of Confident Inclusion
We’re starting at the beginning… how did we actually end up working in diversity and inclusion?
In this episode, Toby and Brooklyn share their (slightly unlikely) routes into EDI, the experiences that shaped the work they do today, and what they’ve learnt along the way.
PLUS, why we’ve started Confident Inclusion, what we want to do differently, and what you can expect from us.
Expect honest conversations, practical advice and probably a few disagreements along the way.
Enjoy the episode!

Description
Welcome to the very first episode of Confident Inclusion. After seven years and nearly 200 episodes of The Inclusive Growth Show, Toby is starting something new with his colleague Brooklyn O'Sullivan. In this opening episode, Brooklyn turns interviewer to find out how a tech project manager at the BBC ended up running an inclusion consultancy, and I hear how she went from measuring giant tortoise toenails in the Seychelles to designing our most popular workshop. We talk about inclusive leadership, why so many people freeze up when talking about diversity, and the real business reasons inclusion matters. Along the way you'll hear about a bank manager who changed my career, a pigeon that gatecrashed a webinar, and why I now play boccia with a stick on my head.
