We might have many habits that we don’t even think about - parts of ourselves that we take for granted. Perhaps if someone thanks us or compliments us on these actions, we say “No, it’s nothing,” because these things are so important to our identity that we assume them. These are the things that keep the world running smoothly and peacefully, maintaining relationships and building good will towards our fellow human.
For example, you might have once had a drug problem, and now you have been sober for months or years. Or perhaps, despite the pressure of your life, you never succumbed to drugs. Congratulations.
Perhaps you notice your loved ones, making a point of buying them gifts, giving them compliments, or just washing the dishes. Congratulations.
You take a moment to appreciate the sunshine, smell the flowers, or hear the sweet rhythm of the rain pattering on the roof. Congratulations.
All of these things improve the quality of life for yourself and others.
