The last decade has seen the rise of cryptocurrencies, decentralised digital assets that are ‘mined’ and, supporters say, more secure than traditional currencies. But increasingly, regulation designed to curb illegal use of the currencies and concerns about the impact of cryptomining on the environment have taken centre stage.
Professor Alex Preda, is joined by Professor Sarah Green the Law Commission of England and Wales Commissioner for commercial and common law, and Ian Taylor Executive Director of Crypto UK, to discuss the basics of cryptocurrencies and blockchain, the murkier history of Bitcoin as a payment tool and whether Dogecoin should seriously be considered a real cryptocurrency.
