Breaking Glass

Conservation, elephants, and emotional intelligence

Listen Later

Overcoming gender discrimination and isolation, Dr. Winnie Kiiru climbed to the top of the wildlife conservation industry in Africa. Today she is one of the only Black female conservationists in Kenya and is leading the industry with her cutting edge research on human-elephant coexistence. In this eye-opening conversation we explore how Dr. Winnie defied social norms by refusing to fill the slot that was offered to her as a woman. From navigating gender dynamics in board rooms to embracing emotional intelligence for wildlife management, Dr. Winnie joins us to reflect on the loneliness at the top and how exactly she is creating opportunities to bring more women with her.
