Several conservative groups in conjunction with ALEC, playing the long game for a power grab in the U. S., have been quietly gaining support of state legislatures for votes to re-write the constitution. Looking for a system which would give hand-picked state delegates a supermajority, they are working to limit federal power and give voters no role in selecting delegates to the electoral college (if that even would exist).
