Consider Yourself Dead to Sin, Alive to God

Listen Later

Paul continues to assert the state of the believer who has been united to Christ. They are dead to sin and alive to God. The sermon centers on the transformative reality of Christian identity rooted in union with Christ's death and resurrection, as articulated in Romans 6:9–11. Drawing from Paul's emphatic declaration that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will never die again, the preacher establishes the historical and theological certainty of the resurrection as foundational to the believer's new life. This resurrection victory over death is not merely a past event but a present reality that redefines the believer's relationship to sin and God: those united to Christ are to reckon themselves dead to sin and alive to God. The message is both doctrinal and practical, calling believers to live in accordance with their new identity—no longer enslaved to sin, but freed to live in obedience, worship, and service to God. The tone is urgent and pastoral, emphasizing that true faith results in a life marked by holiness and a desire to glorify God, while challenging both the unconverted and the complacent to examine their spiritual condition.
