The court has ruled that the IEC’s failure to record all available voter addresses on the voter's roll is inconsistent with its rule of law obligations and is invalid. It has however suspended the invalidity order giving the IEC until June 2018 to furnish addresses for the voter's roll except in the case of Tlokwe where discrepancies must be corrected in time for the next by-elections.
This allows the August 2016 local government elections to proceed.
