Containers and serverless functions run in highly orchestrated environments that are not predetermined – the same apps could run on different clouds and on-prem. They may run for very short periods of time, scale up and down as needed, and have very dynamic networking needs. In such environments, traditional security simply does not meet the newfound requirements for securing microservice architectures at scale.
