  • Notes:

ALL of us have a natural habit that destroys our dream of experiencing contentment.

We naturally focus on what we don’t have and don’t like

How do we get rid of the default habit of dissatisfaction that destroys our hope for contentment?

    “A feeling of satisfaction”

Having peace and hope in the moment, regardless of the moment

I’ll be satisfied when my life is “filled more” with _________________

    Contentment doesn’t come from consumption.

Contentment comes from connection to Jesus.

How do we get rid of the default habit of dissatisfaction that destroys our hope for contentment?

One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan.

    Luke 17:12-19

Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the nine? Does only this foreigner return to give glory to God?”

And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go; your faith has made you well.”

    Luke 17:12-19

Let your roots grow down into him (Jesus), and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

    Colossians 2:7

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners…

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

    Romans 6:6-11

For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.

    Romans 6:6-11

So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God…

    Romans 6:6-11

The Gospel is good news because God doesn’t treat us as we deserve.

Through Jesus - God unconditionally gives us love, grace, and goodness.

Gratitude isn’t ignoring pain or problems – it’s being thankful for the reality that we get better than we deserve AND someday we’ll have more than we can imagine.

Ritual – daily habit, Refocus – intentional action, Rejoice – flip feelings

Practicing gratitude towards God reverses our default dissatisfaction and allows us to experience the joy of contentment.
