The seventh component of resilience is control. Building control means setting goals, taking action, and managing the things that impact your life. There are two primary perspectives on control: internal and external. Athletes with an internal locus of control are more likely to take responsibility for their performance, while those with an external locus of control often externalize the causes of failure. By focusing on the things you can control, such as attitude, effort, and focus, you can improve your athletic performance and overall wellbeing.
