Today we have a conversation around the general public's reactions when parents and supports for children on the spectrum go out into their communities. My mom shares some personal experiences with children and their parents that bring light onto the reality of self harming behaviors. She also explores the judgement she has experienced from others that are unaware of the entire situation and frankly it's not helpful. The focus needs to be on the child. We then get into some of my thoughts on why we are quick to judge others and situations. Throughout today's conversation we discuss more helpful ways someone can express their concerns for a child if needed and it all starts with asking a question. We are not intending to shame anyone for showing compassion and reacting on instinct, all we want to do is give others the opportunity to collect the entire picture before they place judgement.
