Caregiver Saathi brings to you Conversations with Gentle Warriors! A series of our Facebook LIVE sessions where caregivers share their caregiving journeys, now in a podcast format.
Welcome to the 4th episode of Conversations with Gentle Warriors.
In this episode we get to meet Sudeshna, and learn about her journey and experience as a caregiver. Sudeshna, an only child, was a caregiver to her aging parents for the span of about 6 years. She talks about her learning experience while observing her mother's role as a caregiver for her father.
“What keeps me going is that if the roles were reversed, my parents would not even think twice about taking care of me”
She speaks about the realistic, unexpected, and tough aspect of caregiving as she looked after both her parents, and the emotional toll that caregiving had on her. Sudeshna also mentions the challenges she had while caring for her father and balancing her employment and schooling.
She also talks about the endeavours she faced as a result of seeing discriminatory treatment of her parents by the medical system, and how they weren't treated as fairly as younger patients.
