Conversations With Q episodes

  • Why Is “I Need You” Harder to Say Than “I’m Proud of You”?

We’ll tell somebody “I’m proud of you” without thinking twice. But admitting “I need you”? Suddenly, we don’t know what to say.

Why is it so easy to celebrate somebody else but so uncomfortable to admit we need somebody ourselves?

Think about it. We’ll call our boys to help move a refrigerator up three flights of stairs without hesitation. But calling that same friend and saying, “Man, I’m struggling. I really need somebody to talk to”? That’s a whole different conversation.

In this episode of Conversations With Q, we’re getting into something a lot of us experience but rarely talk about: the difficulty of being vulnerable with the people closest to us.

Q gets personal about growing up with a father who showed love more through actions than words, why hearing “I’m proud of you” can mean more than people realize, and why being the strong, dependable person sometimes makes asking for emotional support even harder.

We’re talking about men expressing emotions, friendships that never get past surface-level conversations, the fear of being let down, and why even people who genuinely love us might not always know how to show up.

And here's a question worth sitting with:

How can somebody know everything about your life but have no idea what you're going through?

Because sometimes the hardest part isn't finding someone who cares. It's letting them know you need them.

🎙️ CONVERSATION CORNER: Which is harder for you to say: “I'm proud of you” or “I need you”? And when was the last time somebody told you they were proud of you and you genuinely needed to hear it?

If this conversation reminds you of somebody, send it to them. Maybe it's a conversation both of you have been needing to have.

  • After the East End Day Shooting: What Does Lexington Need to Change?

On August 15, 2026, a shooting at Lexington’s East End Day celebration left a young man dead, several others injured and families across the community searching for answers.

In this special episode of Conversations With Q, Q is joined by Ike, Derek & Quidi for a respectful, honest and sometimes uncomfortable conversation about what happens before community violence—and what must happen after the news cameras leave.

This is not an attempt to exploit a tragedy, speculate about an active criminal case or reduce the people affected to names and numbers.

It is a conversation about what we mean when we repeatedly say:

    “We have to do better.”

    The roundtable discusses:

    • How social media turns conflict into public entertainment
    • Competition, status, respect and fear within the Black community
    • The difference between being friendly with your child and being their parent

There may not be one policy, one program or one person capable of preventing every tragedy.

Real change requires families, fathers, mothers, mentors, schools, churches, community leaders, law enforcement, elected officials and young people working together.

The most important question is not simply whether Lexington needs to do better.

    It is:

What are each of us personally willing to do differently?

This episode is dedicated to everyone affected by the East End Day shooting, including the family and loved who were injured and the East End community.

Content advisory: This episode contains a serious discussion of gun violence, death, injured children, grief and community trauma.

  • I Just Want One Week Where Nothing Random Happens: Adulthood, Stress & Everyday Burnout

Some of us are tired of plot twists.

    Not the fun kind.
Not the “surprise, somebody blessed you” kind.
    The random life kind.

    The tire light comes on.
The bill is higher than expected.
    The school calls.
    Something breaks.
    Somebody needs something.
Your phone rings and you already know peace is about to leave the room.

In this Season 6 episode of Conversations With Q, Q gets into one of the most relatable parts of adulthood: the exhaustion that comes from constantly adjusting, constantly pivoting, and constantly dealing with random problems that were not on the schedule.

Because sometimes it is not one big crisis that wears you down.

Sometimes it is the little things.

    The unexpected expense.
The message you forgot to answer.
    The appointment that gets moved.
The groceries that cost too much.
The child needing something for school at the last minute.
The “quick question” that turns into a whole situation.

This episode is for anybody who has ever looked at life and thought, “Can I please just get one regular week?”

Q talks about everyday stress, mental overload, emotional exhaustion, adult responsibilities, random inconveniences, and the kind of burnout that happens when life keeps tapping you on the shoulder before you even finish dealing with the first thing.

Because wanting peace does not mean you are avoiding responsibility.
Wanting a calm week does not mean you are lazy.
Wanting nothing random to happen does not mean you cannot handle life.

    It means you are human.

Sometimes the prayer is not even, “Give me everything I want.”

    Sometimes the prayer is simply:

    Let the car start.
Let the bills be what I expected.
Let nobody call me with drama.
    Let the groceries last.
    Let the plans stay plans.
    Let me breathe.

Because sometimes peace is not fancy.

Sometimes peace is just nothing new going wrong.

No fake deep energy. No pretending to have all the answers. Just real conversation.

  • The Older I Get, the Less I Explain Myself: Boundaries, Peace & People-Pleasing

Some people do not want an explanation.
They want access to the old version of you.

In this episode of Conversations With Q, I talk about boundaries, overexplaining, people-pleasing, peace, growth, and why the older you get, the less energy you have for defending decisions that are already clear to you.

This is a real conversation about learning that every “no” does not need a paragraph, every misunderstanding does not need a meeting, and every person does not deserve the full story behind your peace.

Because explaining yourself less does not mean you care less.

Sometimes it means you finally know where your energy belongs.

  • Sometimes I Just Want Life to Feel Simple Again: Adulthood, Burnout & Finding Peace

You just want it to feel simple again.

In this episode of Conversations With Q, I talk about adulthood, burnout, nostalgia, overthinking, social media, friendship, rest guilt, and the quiet exhaustion of life always feeling like it needs a plan.

This one is for anybody who misses when a good day was just a good meal, a funny conversation, a clean house, a song you forgot you loved, or a drive with nowhere serious to be.

Because sometimes the goal is not to go back.

Sometimes the goal is to bring a little simplicity into the life you have now.

  • For the Men Who Keep Showing Up: Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month & the Silence Behind “I’m Good”

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month and a lot of men are not okay.

They are just good at showing up.

In this Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month episode of Conversations With Q, Q talks about the men who go to work tired, answer “I’m good” when they are not, carry pressure in silence, and keep functioning even when life feels heavy.

This is a real conversation about men’s mental health, depression, suicide awareness, Black men, emotional exhaustion, fatherhood, pressure, silence, and why the strong one still needs somebody to check on him for real.

Because showing up does not always mean somebody is okay.

Sometimes it just means they have responsibilities.

If you or someone you know is in crisis or having thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 in the U.S. to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

  • Enjoy Life Without Guilt: Rest, Joy & Still Figuring It Out

Enjoy Life Without Guilt: Rest, Joy & Still Figuring It Out

Have you ever tried to enjoy yourself, but your brain started reminding you about bills, laundry, goals, money, messages, and everything you “should” be doing instead?

In the Season 6 premiere of Conversations With Q, Q talks about guilt, rest, joy, adulthood, responsibility, and why so many people struggle to enjoy life without feeling bad about it.

This episode is for the overthinker, the responsible one, the person who feels guilty for taking a break, and anybody who is tired of treating joy like something they have to earn through exhaustion.

Because you are allowed to enjoy life while you are still building it.

You are allowed to laugh while you are still healing.

You are allowed to rest while you still have goals.

And sometimes, you really can just enjoy the wings first.

  • Why Brotherhood & Sisterhood Matter: Real People Can Save You.

Some people are surrounded, but not supported.

In this episode of Conversations With Q, I talk about why real brotherhood and sisterhood matter — not just for fun, but for your peace, your mental health, your confidence, and your healing.

This is a real conversation about friendship, loyalty, emotional safety, accountability, loneliness, and the power of having people in your life who know how to check on you, pray for you, laugh with you, challenge you, and remind you that you do not have to carry life alone.

Because the right people do not just entertain you.

    They anchor you.

  • Give Yourself Grace: When Life Feels Heavy and You Feel Behind

A lot of people are not behind in life.

They are just being too hard on themselves.

In this episode of Conversations With Q, I talk about grace, pressure, self-doubt, feeling lost, and the exhaustion that comes from constantly feeling like you should have life figured out by now.

This is for the person who feels behind, overwhelmed, uncertain, or tired of comparing their real life to everybody else’s highlight reel.

Because maybe what you need right now is not more pressure.

    Maybe you need more grace.

  • Lexington Mayoral Candidate Darnell Tagaloa No Slogans, Just Answers: on Housing, Safety & More.

Lexington’s future is on the ballot, and this conversation goes beyond campaign slogans.

I sit down with mayoral candidate Darnell Tagaloa for a real conversation about housing, public safety, youth, fatherhood, co-parenting, winter storm response, City Hall accountability, and what leadership should look like for everyday Lexingtonians.

This episode asks the questions voters deserve answers to: Can he lead the city? What is his real plan? Who gets a seat at the table? And why should Lexington trust him?

Whether you support him, question him, or are still undecided, this episode is a reminder that local elections matter because local decisions touch your life first.
