Today we learn much about Cooinda Terang Inc. from Sharon Lock, their Day Program Co-ordinator, and three of their wonderful participants in Brodie Cook, Celia Nash, and Denise Madden.
Cooinda was established as the Terang and District Retarded Children's Centre, after a public meeting on 24th September 1954. The name "Cooinda" chosen as it means "a happy place". Initially using the Church of England hall, 9 children were enrolled.
Cooinda has now grown to an organisation which employs 85 staff, supporting approximately 70 participants offering day programs, independent living and residential support.
Also, get along to their Little Acorn Café, 135 High St Terang. Open 9 till 4 Monday to Friday and 9 till 1 Saturday.
