Fast forward to the early Christian era when the Roman Empire adopted Christianity as its official religion. The church strategically incorporated elements of these pagan festivals into the Christian liturgical calendar to facilitate the conversion of the masses. Thus, the 25th of December was chosen to coincide with existing winter solstice celebrations, eventually becoming the date to commemorate the birth of Jesus.
