Cormac McCarthy between 1951-1957 experienced an archetypal pattern common to American men. He felt contained by his friends, family, and institution. From 1951-1952 Cormac McCarthy attended the University of Tennessee. After two years of this McCarthy decided to transition to a life in the  United States Air Force.
