Show Summary

In each segment, we talk about taking your business to the next level and we like to have fun talking about marketing. But, you are not alone. You are not the only entrepreneur out there. We all wonder if we’re the only ones with these obstacles. Today we have an inspirational and motivational guest with us, Cornell Thomas.

Cornell’s background

Cornell is a former professional basketball player who pulled his Achille's tendon. This took him on a path of coaching kids in basketball. In the last five years, he has discovered his true purpose which is serving others and helping people be motivated and inspired to find their purpose. He has written two books, he travels the world speaking and has two businesses. Crossroads Basketball is his basketball business and his other business is the Power of Positivity LLC.

Social media

Social media is a very powerful tool.  Most people are under the assumption that when you're doing social media, that you have to do it for 15 hours a day and that is completely incorrect. Cornell does social media about 15 minutes a day. If done correctly, social media can be a very powerful tool.  It's not as time-consuming as some people make it out to be.

Cornell’s “aha” moment

One day four years ago Cornell was on Facebook and noticed his timeline was full of the most negative garbage he had ever seen. He decided that day he was going to start a new positivity movement. He had a book of positive quotes, and he would post one every day. Even people who were pretty negative started to like the quotes. One day he couldn’t find the book, so he decided to make up his own quote. People still liked it so he decided to forget the book and keep making up his own quotes and people really responded to that.

Biggest challenge

Change your definition of success. Success is different to everybody. If you look at success just in terms of finances, Cornell isn’t a success because he doesn’t live in a mansion or drive a Lamborghini. Society views success as being a millionaire. To Cornell success is helping to change one person’s life for the better every single day. Cornell considers himself a success every day because of his quotes and interaction.

What held him back in the beginning was wondering if people wanted to hear his message. It’s the same with business owners who ask who is going to buy this product? If you have this idea, there’s a reason for it. You don’t know the whole planet. Don’t assume people won’t love what you have to offer. Just go out there and believe in yourself and do it.

What excites Cornell and keeps him going

What keeps Cornell going is knowing that he’s speaking somewhere in front of people he’s never met before.

Helpful tool

Write down what you want out of life. Write down your goals. Don’t just write them down but go through them every day and read them.
