Publisher's Summary:
Jay Maxwell has always suspected foul play was involved in the plane crash that killed his husband. When his house is ransacked, he retains the services of Real Answers Investigations to help him figure out if he's also in danger.
Doug Anson wants Jay to not only find closure for his husband's death, but to be safe. He feels a certain pull to the sexy coffee shop owner with bright blue eyes and a mile-wide smile that he hasn't felt in a long time. He shouldn't let his feelings get in the way of his work, but he can't just walk away from Jay when it's all said and done.

Neither romantic nor mysterious
A few things bothered me about this book. I knew that there would be a problem with the story line - and that my like of MC, Jay, would be in jeopardy - when in chapter 2 Jay made statements like he "missed the constant companionship" and that he "wasn't meant to be alone". Not that he specifically missed Rob or anything about him, or anything about emotions. Only 4 months after your husband dies and you're talking like you lost your trusty golden retriever? I ended up not liking Jay not only because of that but because he just acted so desperate. He said that he was looking for long term (again, after only 4 months) but I feel that if Ethan would've said he was willing to try then Jay would've gone for it. He just wanted SOMEBODY. Speaking of Ethan, what was the purpose of having him acting so sneaky & suspicious if he had absolutely nothing to do with anything? Other than a couple of quickies he served no purpose here.
As for Doug, he seemed so stiff and wooden that his emotional attraction seemed barely there. It seemed more physical than anything. And the resolution of the crime/mystery seemed a bit much. As for the writing itself, there were only a few editing mistakes like typos, but 2 things stood out that the author seemed to miss: in the beginning, Doug said that the police had been trying to get his agency off the consultants' list for years. So not only is Doug a slacker most of the time but his agency as a whole isn't worth their salt? Towards the end, after reading the emails, all dated March 27, Jay said he recognized the date of April 27, but Rob had been dead several weeks by then.
There is no character development, no world building, no romance development, the mystery about Rob's death was just not that exciting and other than a BJ in a car there is 1 sex scene that is basically just fade to black before it even starts. I'm just glad I caught this when it was free.
Not very satisfying
This isn't bad, but I didn't really feel any connection between the two leads except that they were attracted to each other. The mystery isn't that interesting (yet the resolution manages to be OTT) and isn't enough to make me want to read it again or wait that long for action betweent the MCs. Other issues...Jay is ready to move on only months after his husband's death? Why was the plotline with the friend even there?
A budding romance
A nice short mystery read, introducing what looks like a new series, and a budding romance. Jay recently lost his husband in a plane crash, and now his house was broken into.
