California recorded the largest one-day total yet in the U.S. with 11,786 new cases reported Sunday. Arizona, California, Nevada, South Carolina and Texas reported a record number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19. The Mayor of Austin, Texas told CNN, “If we don’t change this trajectory, then I am within two weeks of having our hospitals overrun”. The Mayor of Houston also noted the hospital system there was close to being overwhelmed. For the third time in a week, Florida reported more than 10,000 cases on Sunday. The Mayor of Phoenix, said her request to set up community-based testing was rejected. 112 students living in a fraternity house at the University of Washington have tested positive for the virus. The school has set up a pop-up testing site.
Scientists from around the world are urging the World Health Organization to address airborne transmission of the virus, reports The Washington Post. India has recorded more cases than Russia and now has the third highest total in the world, behind the U.S. and Brazil. Around 270,000 in northeast and northwest Spain will re-enter lockdown. Australia will close the border between New South Wales and Victoria. Over 3,000 people in nine public housing complexes in Melbourne, Victoria have been placed under strict lockdown for 5 days. The Louvre in Paris opened today after four months.
