13 states are now exempt from the Massachusetts’ travel order requiring those entering the state to quarantine for 2 weeks or show a negative test result. Newly added to the low risk states list is Oregon, Washington state and Wyoming.
New York will be ramping up testing, of those who have already died. They’ll be testing for the coronavirus and the flu. Deaths linked to respiratory illnesses that weren’t confirmed before death are to be tested within 48 hours to ensure more accurate death data.
More than 20 NYU students have been suspended for breaking coronavirus policies. NBC News reported hundreds partying near the campus in Manhattan — many without masks. Students were told to quarantine 14 days before the start of in-person classes.
Same problem in West Virginia. West Virginia University suspended 29 members of a fraternity for breaking coronavirus health and safety orders. A member who tested positive and was ordered quarantined instead went to a party at the fraternity house Friday. Plus all residents of the house had been told to isolate due to confirmed cases and close contacts.
The UK has recorded quite an increase in the number of people testing positive and there are concerns the government has lost control even as citizens return to work and universities get ready to reopen. Yesterday almost 3,000 in the UK tested positive, that’s a 50% increase in one day and the highest daily total since May.
Australia’s hot spot of Victoria state recorded its lowest count of new COVID-19 cases in more than 10 weeks. 41 news cases and 9 deaths in the latest 24-hour period measured. The state announced a slight easing of restrictions in Melbourne, but that city will remain in lockdown until at least Oct. 26.

New on the list, Livingston, MO and Willacy, TX. East Feliciana, LA. Lincoln, AR. Radford, VA. Rosebud, MT. Clay, SD. And new on the list, Duval, TX. Countries with the most cases in the last 7 days per capita: Aruba, Turks and Caicos Islands, Bahrain, Maldives, Israel, Sint Maarten, Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica, and Brazil as the Bahamas drops out of the top 10.
There’ve been 6,275,643 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States and 188,932 deaths. The 10 states with highest cumulative case counts: California with 738,550. Texas with 658,202. Florida 646,431. New York 439,501. Georgia 283,199. Illinois 251,515. Arizona 205,767. New Jersey 194,058. North Carolina 176,901. And Tennessee with 164,126 confirmed cases.
