Beaches across the United States drew major crowds over Labor Day weekend. Daytona Beach, FL went ahead with its popular Daytona Truck Meet. Numerous parking lots for San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles County beaches in CA closed after they filled to capacity. At the Jersey shore, beach staffing has been extended into September.


In New York, the infection rate there has been below 1% for 30 straight days. Gov. Andrew Cuomo is encouraging residents to continue with mask wearing and social distancing. New York has seen all its region enter phase four of reopening.


Bruce Williamson, the lead singer of the Temptations, died from coronavirus Sunday night at his home in Vegas at the age of 49. He was a Temptation from 2006 to 2015.


England’s deputy chief medical officer has said the rise in cases in the UK is of great concern and people, especially young people, had “relaxed too much” over the summer.


India has become the world's second worst-hit country behind the United States. It has with increasing urgency been trying to head off economic disaster from the pandemic. India’s Health Ministry also reported a total of 71,642 deaths, the 3rd-highest cumulative national toll.


The games will go on in Tokyo. The VP of the International Olympic Committee said the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be the "games that conquered COVID." The games were postponed in March, the first time that’s happened outside of war.


The top 10 counties with the highest number of recent cases per capita according to The New York Times: Wayne, TN. Chattahoochee, GA. East Feliciana, LA. Livingston, MO. Willacy, TX. Lincoln, AR. Radford, VA. Rosebud, MT. Pawnee, KS. And Duval, TX. Countries with the most cases in the last 7 days per capita: Aruba, Turks and Caicos Islands, Bahrain, Israel, Maldives, Argentina, Costa Rica, Peru, Brazil, and Spain as Sint Maarten drops out of the top 10.


There’ve been 6,300,432 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States and 189,207 deaths. The 10 states with highest cumulative case counts: California with 741,071. Texas with 659,041. Florida 648,269. New York 440,021. Georgia 283,807. Illinois 252,884. Arizona 205,964. New Jersey 194,390. North Carolina 177,919. And Tennessee with 165,109 confirmed cases.


The 5 Countries with the most new cases: India 75,022. United States 25,325. Brazil 10,188. Argentina 9,215. And Colombia 5,327.


The top 10 countries with highest overall cumulative case counts: The United States, India moves into second, Brazil, Russia, Peru, Colombia, South Africa, Mexico, Spain, and Argentina.  


The states with the most new deaths reported as COVID-related: Texas 42. California 33.  New Jersey 22. South Carolina 20. New York 19. Pennsylvania 18. Florida and Ohio 17. Arkansas 14. And Louisiana 12.
