Austria’s leader says that country is seeing the start of a “second wave.” Citizens are being urged to comply with reinforced rules and companies are being asked to keep employees working from home.


Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a new countrywide lockdown to combat a stubborn surge there, with schools and parts of the economy expected to shut down. Israelis will face restrictions on movement and on gatherings.


In England, NHS bosses sent a letter to general practice doctors reminding them to offer face-to-face appointments where necessary. And they were warned they face investigation if they don’t. Some professional bodies say comments like that risk insulting doctors.


A study published by the CDC says very young children, like those in daycare, can catch COVID-19 and spread the virus to adults, even if they never show symptoms. In one case, an 8-month-old baby appears to have spread it from daycare to both parents.


Dr. Anthony Fauci said Friday daily life in the U.S. won't get back to normal until late 2021 when a vaccine is widely distributed. And he’s confident there’ll be one by then.


But Atlanta’s trying to get back to normal. That city is moving to “phase two” of its pandemic reopening guidelines. It actually changes very little but adds a non-binding recommendation that small gatherings of up to 10 with social distancing are now okay.

Rosebud, MT. Harrisonburg, VA. And all new on the list, Union FL, Bollinger, MO, Hardeman, TN, and Stutsman, ND. Countries with the most cases in the last 7 days per capita: Aruba, Bahrain, Israel, Montenegro, Costa Rica, Argentina, new on the list Andorra, Spain, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Kuwait.


There are 2,534,989 active cases in the United States. The current Top 10 states by number of active cases: Florida, California, Georgia, Arizona, Virginia, Maryland, Missouri, Texas, Alabama, and South Carolina.


There’ve been a total 194,041 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related.


Globally there have been 921,762 deaths. Up 8% over 14 days.  


The states with the most new deaths reported as COVID-related: Texas 67. California 52. Georgia 46. Louisiana 33. South Carolina 24. Illinois, Tennessee, and Massachusetts with 14. Minnesota 13. And Florida, Mississippi, and Arkansas all with 12.


Globally, there are 7,226,481 active cases with 1% in serious or critical condition.


There are 325,185 new cases around the world in the last 24 hours, a new all-time high.


The 5 Countries with the most new cases: India 93,215. United States 31,857. Brazil 14,597. Argentina 9,056. And Colombia 7,355.


In the United States, there are 39,192 new cases in the last 24 hours against a high of 73,524 on July 24.
