The World Health Organization’s European director warned governments against reducing the quarantine period for people potentially exposed. WHO Europe's 53-country region recorded more than 300,000 cases in the last week, and more than half of countries reported a rise of more than 10% over the last 2 weeks.
The UK’s Health Minister meanwhile, denied Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the government was considering a 2-week national lockdown. He said there was “speculation in the press” a lockdown would be needed to contain a rapid rise in infections.
India is on track to overtake the United States to become the worst-affected country. 98,000 new cases confirmed yesterday and total caseload surpassing 5 million. And it’s spreading fast there. The country confirmed 1 million new infections in the past 11 days.
New York City wanted to be among the first to get students back into classrooms, but Mayor Bill de Blasio announced he’s delaying in-person instruction for most students due to a shortage of staff and supplies. Middle and high school students will learn remotely through at least Oct. 1.
Wynn Resorts tests groups of up to 700 employees every 2 weeks. They’ve done 15,051 tests so far and of those, there have been 548 positive cases. 51 of those were recorded before reopening and 497 were after reopening. Wynn Las Vegas has hosted more than 500,000 guests since reopening in early June.
