64 higher income economies joined a global initiative that brings together governments and manufacturers to make sure vaccines reach those in greatest need, no matter where they live. The idea is to insure against the failure of any one vaccine candidate and distribute vaccines in a cost-effective, targeted way.
The CDC stirred confusion by posting — then taking down — a change to its position on how easily coronavirus can spread through the air. A post last week on their website said the virus can hang in the air and spread further than 6 feet. Now they say the post was an error.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will impose new restrictions on nightlife, including having pubs and restaurants close early. They’ll be able to offer table service only and close at 10pm.
There’s been an increase in TSA officers who’ve tested positive since Labor Day weekend. The TSA has 229 employees with active infections. Over the past two weeks, TSA officers at 31 U.S. airports have tested positive. Eleven of those airports are in the Midwest.
In India, the Taj Mahal is once again open after more than a 6-month closure. Visitors are capped at 5,000 a day. Tickets are digital, and everyone must wear a mask and get their temperature taken. Tourism accounted for 6.8% of India's economy in 2019.

There are 2,542,185 active cases in the United States. The current Top 10 states by number of active cases: Florida, California, Georgia, Arizona, Virginia, Maryland, Missouri, Texas, Alabama, and South Carolina.
The five states with the most daily new cases per capita over 7 days are North Dakota, Wisconsin, Arkansas, South Dakota, and Iowa.
The retransmission rate is currently fastest in Wyoming, Wisconsin, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Utah. While the lowest retransmission is found in Hawaii, Texas, Mississippi, Ohio, and California.
There’ve been a total 199,815 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related, with a current national fatality rate of 2.97%.
The states with the most new deaths reported as COVID-related: California 53. Texas 48. Missouri 26. Florida 21. Pennsylvania 20. Washington 18. Arkansas 16. Tennessee 15. South Carolina 13. And Michigan 12.
Globally, there are 7,401,635 active cases.
There are 253,013 new cases around the world in the last 24 hours, against a high of 312,135 on September 11th.
