Trucks trying to get into France from Britain backed up for miles and people were stranded at airports as more than 40 countries enacted travel restrictions on the U.K. The rail operator Eurotunnel has also suspended service. This because of a new and seemingly more contagious strain of the coronavirus.
The European Union gave the go-ahead to the Pfizer vaccine, so shots should begin across the 27-nation bloc just after Christmas. The approval came just hours after the EU's drug regulatory agency said the vaccine meets safety and quality standards.
The Vatican says that it is "morally acceptable" to get a Covid-19 vaccination even if its research or production involved using cell lines from aborted fetuses. It said this is okay given the "grave danger" of the pandemic. Pope Francis approved the text Thursday.
Police in New York City raided a club filled with more than 160 patrons, none of whom were wearing masks, in violation of the state's COVID-19 restrictions. This happened around 2:45am Sunday in Queens. Plus, the building is not set up to be a club so they were also violating fire safety codes and did not have a liquor license.

The reproduction rate is currently highest in Maine, Oklahoma, California, West Virginia, and Mississippi. The states with the lowest reproduction rate are Washington, Alaska, North Dakota, Wyoming, and New Jersey.
There’ve been a total 319,354 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related, with a current national fatality rate of 1.8%.

There were 536,082 new cases around the world in the last 24 hours against a high of 748,974 reported on December 11.
