This is Coronavirus 411, the latest COVID-19 info and new hotspots… Just the facts… for February 3rd, 2021.
The U.S. government will start shipping vaccines to U.S. pharmacies next week in an attempt to ramp up vaccinations as new, possibly more serious virus strains threaten progress. About 6,500 pharmacies will get 1 million doses and more locations will be added as production allows.
This podcast deals a lot with statistics, so here’s an interesting one. There are now more Americans who’ve been vaccinated than those who have contracted COVID-19. 26.5 million have gotten at least one dose and there have been 26.3 million documented cases since the pandemic began.
However…you might want to take this into account. A new study from the National Institutes of Health found that almost 5% of Americans surveyed had undiagnosed Covid-19 last summer — meaning almost 17 million cases weren’t counted. Some researchers estimate 30-40% of cases are asymptomatic.
New research on Americans out of the U.K.’s Imperial College London suggests the age group that might be fueling most new cases are people 35 to 49. The researchers concluded most infections originate from people from 20 to 49, but those 35 to 49 were responsible for 41.1% of new cases.
If you’ve been worrying Pfizer isn’t making enough money from its vaccine, try not to. The company expects to generate $15 billion, about a fourth of its total revenue this year, from sales of its vaccine. They are working to ramp up production and expect a long-lasting need for the vaccine going forward.
In the United States cases were down 29%, deaths are down 2%, and hospitalizations down 21% over 14 days. The 7-day average of new cases has been trending down since January 25th.
There are now 9,819,069 active cases in the United States. The current top 5 states by number of active cases: California, New York, Florida, Arizona, and Georgia.

The five states with the highest risk levels and most daily new cases per capita over 7 days are Arizona, South Carolina, Rhode Island, New York, and Texas.
There’ve been a total 446,746 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related, with a current national fatality rate of 1.69%.
