Charles Abrell was born on August 12, 1931, in Terre Haute Indiana. He joined the Marine Corps on August 17, 1948, at the age of 17. On June 10, 1951, During the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, Abrell's team found themselves pinned down and trapped, under intense enemy fire, from an enemy bunker.
