The quote "spare the rod, spoil the child" was the motto of the people who raised me and my brother  Was it effective? In Steve and Mike's family, none of us are in prison, we all work  and do the right thing, so I would say yes.  But our natural make up as a human is what steers Steve and Mike  away from crime, violence and law-breaking tendencies.
