Corruption in Vancouver, An ICBC Rate Hike? & Selling Surrey SkyTrain

A new report by Transparency International has found almost half of people in Western Canada perceive federal politicians as corrupt. Disturbingly, 37% of people in Vancouver believe the real estate industry has been ‘extremely corrupted’, compared to only 15% of people in Western Canada, outside of Greater Vancouver.
Today, ICBC will announce details of its basic rate application. What kind of rate hikes can drivers expect? Premier John Horgan foreshadowed what we should expect, during an interview with Global BC’s Richard Zussman.
The Surrey SkyTrain took another step towards becoming a reality at the TransLink Mayors’ Council meeting yesterday, despite its total funding still considered up in the air. The mayors voted to allow TransLink staff to proceed with planning and project development, which would see a 16-kilometre Expo Line extension to Langley. How far will the $1.6 billion go? Mayors council chair and New West Mayor Jonathan Cote says the funding won’t guarantee the line to Langley.
