Featured Artist of the Week: Janus Rasmussen

Best known for his acclaimed work as one half of KIASMOS alongside Ólafur Arnalds, and with a catalogue that boasts years of collaboration and sonic exploration, Janus Rasmussen returns with Murk; a vivid, electrified new single that marks the beginning of an expansive new chapter. Alive with kinetic energy, Murk channels pressure and release with hypnotic precision, and a clear-eyed vision for the dancefloor. A skipping 4×4, almost UKG-esque beat underpins oscillating and jittering celestial frequencies, while sleek synth flourishes glide in and out of the sonic sphere. The tension coils and uncoils, staccato chords pulse beneath the surface, constantly threatening to spill over.

Hailing from the Faroe Islands and now based in Reykjavik, Rasmussen’s work spans minimal techno, ambient textures, and experimental electronics, each project revealing a deep sensitivity to mood, movement, and atmosphere. With Murk, he offers a potent distillation of those elements: a track where a tapestry of shapes and sounds meld into a singular feeling of forward movement and propulsion. A bold first step toward a new phase of his solo output, and one that promises to push further into rhythm, energy, and sonic depth.

Released January 8 – Burning Building. Despite spending time as a DJ, dance music radio programmer, and becoming a professional audio engineer at 20, Joel never returned to creating music.

Until 2025.

In the year following his first releases, Bad Bad Joel surpassed 10,000 streams and earned airplay on Afterhours.FM and radio stations across Canada (Including Cosmik Repercussions :)). Inspired by Above & Beyond, Avicii, and Chris Lake, his sound blends heartfelt vocals with euphoric drops and a nostalgic yet modern edge. Bad Bad Joel is just getting started: honing his sound, recording collaborations, and sharing the human experience through electronic music for those who feel it deeply. He’s blasting into 2026 with an unlikely feature, joined by country-rock vocalist “Louise” on her very

Featured Album of the Week – Quantum Sound Project:

Released on a label known for championing experimental, boundary-pushing creators, Quantum Sound is one of the most innovative Houndstooth releases to date. Opening the vinyl edition is ‘Embodiment Breathing’, produced by Jon Hopkins — a 20-minute breathwork journey designed to shift attention from mind to body. Frustrated by the lightweight sound palette that dominates much breathwork music, Hopkins set out to create something heavier and more grounded — a slow, hypnotic techno piece that connects new-age practice and the club, two worlds that, in terms of consciousness expansion, he sees sharing far more common ground than is recognised. Flowing from this is a deep sound meditation designed for decompression and integration after the breathwork, built from extended drones and frequencies associated in research with calming, restorative physiological responses.

Additional contributions span ambient, and transcendental spaces, featuring Hannah Holland, Wata Igarashi, Manami, Jennifer Loveless and Ruthlss, along with Alessandro Cortini, whose ‘IV’ piece “seemed to stop time” at Mastery’s Quantum Sound show at Prospect in Bristol. A long-time but undisclosed collaborator, Silent Shadow, closes the album’s first half with its emotional peak. For full immersion, a bonus continuous 60-minute mix by Hannah Holland invites listeners to lie down, close their eyes and fully surrender to the Quantum Sound Journey.

The project grew from Mastery’s five-month Quantum Sound residency in fabric’s Room One, where Cherub Sanson and Tim Wheater performed live instrumental sound journeys that flowed into ambient electronic live sets by Hannah Holland, Wata Igarashi, Flora Yin Wong, Jennifer Loveless and founding Quantum Sound artist, Daniel Avery. The performances filled the room and its new body-kinetic dance floor with a unique blend of ancient and electronic sound, played to audiences lying down in complete stillness.

Featured Artist of the Week: Borokov Borokov

If Borokov Borokov had a formula, it probably would be derived from the following quote: “First and foremost we make music that we ourselves want to dance to. Even when the music in question does not immediately sound like dance music.” 

 A volatile mix of angular synth pop, hi-NRG, krautrock, acid house, elektrapunk, and multilingual lamentations, their new album ‘World War Two’ is set for release on the 18th February via Magnetron Music.

‘World War Too’ amplifies the tension between agency and influence. The brainchild of Boris Van den Eynden and Noah Melis, the band started by handing themselves over – eyes closed, hypnotised – pulling broken signals, ghost phrases, and compulsive loops from the ether. Those transmissions became the raw matter of their new songs: part fever dream, part involuntary broadcast. With producer Youniss Ahamad and a rotating cast of collaborators including Personal Trainer, Marie Klock, Lézard and more, live drums, guitars, and voices were grafted onto these skeletal demos. Flesh collided with circuitry, trance fragments with flesh-and-blood immediacy.

On stage, Borokov Borokov’s manic intensity has lit up festivals and clubs across Europe and beyond – CTM, Fusion, MOTH Club, Eurosonic, Pukkelpop, Best Kept Secret, Paradiso, Down The Rabbit Hole, AB, Le Petit Bain, Le Sucre, boilerroom.tv and more. In 2020, they were part of the renowned SHAPE platform. They are also a (un)regular on Charlie Bones’ Do!! You!!! Radio.

Featured Artist of the Week: Anton Anishchanka.

Anton Anishchanka is a field recordist, sound artist, curator and composer from Minsk, Belarus. Combining field recordings, synthesizers, reel to reel tapes and archival sounds, he creates his own musical narratives within the ambient, electroacoustic, and experimental genres.

His forthcoming album ‘Krope,’ released 28th November via Shatkavalka, reimagines traditional Belarusian music through contemporary sound art. Weaving rare folk vocals with harmonica, vibraphone, analog synths, and field recordings from Belarus’s fading rural landscapes, the album creates a richly textured sonic world. It’s a conceptual odyssey rooted in decades of ethnographic expeditions recorded during the 1960s-2000s. Conceived as a six-part suite, it offers listeners a cinematic journey into Belarusian heritage, narrating the destinies of their ancestors and own paths during World War II and the Soviet era.

Born from the interplay of nature, culture, and personal reflections, ‘Krope’ offers intimate fragments of lived experience. Through the hiss of a passing train, the murmur of a stream, the low hum of wind, it captures the movement of everyday life and the haunting emotions felt by generations before. Grief and regret give way to disarming love, shaping the ethos of Belarusian culture. From the opening song to the final vigil of death, ‘Krope’ sketches a path where personal and ancestral histories intertwine. The album reveals how the same inevitabilities – love, departure, loss – still reverberate today, linking past and present in painful continuity.

Shaped in collaboration with ethnographer Iryna Vasilyeva, who curated archival songs revealing diverse facets of Belarusian culture, ‘Krope’ also incorporates recordings from remote regions – creaking forests, distant trains – capturing the ephemeral textures of rural life. Acoustic instruments and analog processing add warmth, complementing electronic layers and archival voices. Like most of Anishchanka’s projects, ‘Krope’ is a deep listening experience and transcultural auditory voyage.
